Florida Mental Health Resources, LLC was founded in 2020 by its owner, Dr.Tania P. Alfonso, a Board Certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and mental health care provider who has been working for several years in the health care industry. This office-based practice was opened with the intention of expanding the availability of resources to address the growing needs for mental health services within our community. Our company aims to provide a wide range of behavioral health services organized within a comprehensive, safe, and nurturing environment to ensure continuity of care.

Biography of Dr. Tania P. Alfonso,

Dr. Tania P. Alfonso is a dedicated and compassionate Doctor in Nursing Practice board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with more than two decades of experience delivering patient-centered psychiatric care. Her career reflects an unwavering commitment to serving individuals across the lifespan—children, adolescents, adults, and older adults—within primary, acute, forensic, community-based, and long-term psychiatric settings. Her clinical expertise includes substance use disorders, complex mood and anxiety conditions, and crisis stabilization, with a sustained focus on fostering resilience, restoring functioning, and promoting emotional well-being.
Dr. Alfonso earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from Walden University, further strengthening her leadership capacity and clinical scholarship to advance evidence-based psychiatric practice and improve healthcare outcomes. She graduated with academic distinction from Maryville University, obtaining a Post-Master’s Certificate as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (Summa Cum Laude), and earned her Master of Science in Nursing from West Coast University (Magna Cum Laude). Prior to her nursing career in the United States, she obtained a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from the Medical Sciences University of Havana, Cuba, establishing a robust medical foundation that continues to inform her integrative clinical approach.
As the founder and principal provider of Florida Mental Health Resources, LLC, Dr. Alfonso delivers comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and psychotherapy through both in-person and telehealth platforms. She also collaborates with multidisciplinary teams across Miami-Dade and Broward counties to expand access to high-quality, evidence- based mental healthcare for diverse and underserved populations. Fluent in English and Spanish, she is deeply committed to reducing cultural and linguistic barriers that often impede equitable care.
Dr. Alfonso is equally devoted to academic mentorship and professional development. As a clinical preceptor, she prepares future psychiatric nurse practitioners through rigorous training experiences spanning adult, geriatric, pediatric, and special populations psychiatry. Her academic contributions include serving as a faculty instructor in medical-surgical and psychiatric nursing at Southeastern College, where she helped cultivate clinical competence and professional excellence among emerging nurses.
Her leadership background includes serving as Director of Nursing for Behavioral Health Services at Larkin Community Hospital and as Assistant Nurse Manager at Palmetto General Hospital, where she supervised adult and geriatric psychiatric units and championed quality- driven care initiatives. She possesses advanced training in aggression management, tele– behavioral health assessment, and psychiatric crisis intervention, reinforcing her ability to lead within high-acuity environments.
As a proud member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, Dr. Alfonso remains steadfast in her dedication to lifelong learning, clinical innovation, and the translation of evidence into practice. She is passionate about patient education and shared decision-making, ensuring individuals understand the risks, benefits, and therapeutic goals associated with psychiatric treatment.
Grounded in advocacy and holistic care, Dr. Alfonso integrates medical expertise, nursing science, and compassionate leadership to support individuals and families navigating mental health challenges. Her professional mission is to drive meaningful change in psychiatric healthcare while leaving a lasting impact through clinical excellence, mentorship, and doctoral- level leadership.
